A year in TVHS Theatre is full of energy, creativity, performances, and plenty to look forward to. From the excitement of auditions and cast lists to opening nights, Improv, Cabaret, festivals, the spring musical, and end-of-year celebrations, there’s almost always something happening.
Every theatre year is a little different, but here’s a look at the general rhythm of the year and what students and families can expect along the way.
August through June
A general guide to the rhythm of a typical theatre year—not the official event calendar.
The school year begins with plenty of excitement. Fall Play and Improv auditions kick off the season, with callbacks, rehearsals, and a new year of TVHS Theatre getting underway.
The year is officially in motion. Our new Improv team takes the stage, and Cabaret brings students, families, and the theatre community together for one of our favorite fundraising events of the year.
It’s showtime! The Fall Play is our first mainstage production of the year and a major milestone of the fall semester.
Theatre keeps moving after the Fall Play, with another chance to see our Improv troupe take the stage.
As the semester winds down, excitement begins building for the spring. Another Improv performance takes the stage, and auditions begin for the Spring Musical.
The new year begins with the Senior Directed production, giving student directors and performers an opportunity to lead and create. January also brings theatre festival opportunities and experiences beyond the TVHS stage.
The Spring Musical is taking shape behind the scenes while Improv keeps performance energy high.
March is packed with activity. Improv returns, and our second Cabaret of the year brings another evening of student performances, community, and fundraising.
One of the biggest moments of the theatre year arrives as the Spring Musical moves into its final rehearsals, tech, and performances.
As the school year begins to wind down, students have opportunities to celebrate their work and the wider arts community through special events and recognition.
We close out the year together with the Drama Banquet — a chance to celebrate our students, recognize the year’s accomplishments, and send our seniors off with lots of love.
Theatre happens all year
Workshops, auditions, rehearsals, volunteer opportunities, fundraising, festivals, special events, and other theatre experiences are sprinkled throughout the year.
